Caeli
& Wen was founded in 2007 by a merge of ideas between Parsons
graduates Caeli Kim and Wen Liang.
The two young designers introduced their first collection in 2007
in New York focusing on the key elements — style, modernity,
and femininity. They were intent upon making clothes that are fun
and exuberant, using colors and prints that luxuriate and produce
optimism.
Caeli & Wen works with combination of fine texture and softly
draping fabrics such as silk, organza, and silk chiffon, adding
dimension and drama, yet offering designs appealing in their modernity
and lack of excess. Curvy lines and easy soft drape makes Caeli
& Wen clothing subtly provocative, and flirtatious.
At the age of 20, Caeli began her career working as a Freelance
Designer and Design Consultant for New York’s top apparel
companies. Upon graduating from Parsons, she then joined a partnership
with a sample-making company, where she observed the assembly of
designer’s clothing such as Vera Wang, Karl Lagerfeld, Catherine
Malandrino, and Marc Jacobs. In pursuit to create her own label,
she later left the partnership to form Caeli & Wen.
Wen’s excellent artistry and love for color and prints landed
her first job in 1997 as a Textile Designer, creating prints for
well-known designers in New York, such as Jones New York, Jason
Wu, and Ellen Tracy. With years of experience in the industry, and
passion for creating beautiful things, it was only natural for these
two friends to combine their ideas to to achieve remarkable new
harmony.
